My name is Trilian Krug and I am 16 years old. I have been playing percussion for seven years and drum set for six. I love listening to all forms of music including heavy metal drummers, country artists with a story to tell, singer songwriters, and many aspiring musicians no matter their genre.
In school, I enjoy being center snare for our drumline and participating in a variety of music events. Outside of school, I am a part of four bands and we get the thrill of playing our original music live. For the past two years I have also been teaching percussion and drum set to younger students. My private drum instructors, band directors, and MSBOA’s All-State conductors are just a few of my heroes. They have shown me music is more than just an art form. It is a way of life.
I chose to play “Forget Me Too” by Machine Gun Kelly not because of the artist’s lyrics, or the drummer’s style and edgy rhythms, but because of how this song allows me to let go and think of nothing but playing drums. Whether smiling or focused, I love drumming because I like the challenge of moving all four of my limbs at once while singing at the same time. Drumming exposes me to many artists and people and allows me to embrace all forms of music, immersing myself in a world of connection and opportunity. Drummers captivate a crowd and contain the power to move the band. We may sit in the back, but we sit upon a throne. I want to make a difference in the world of music while inspiring others to do the same.
